About the Event

Mindful Drawing from Nature

6 Mondays from 3rd June to 8th July

5:30 - 7pm

"Brilliant teaching for beginners and advanced. Engaging, patient, fun and caring."

  former student

With a focus on the natural world, this course will include exercises on observational drawing, mark-making, pattern and colour. All exercises will reveal valuable ways of achieving mindfulness, the ability to be present and fully engaged with the current moment, while also enhancing fundamental drawing skills.

We'll be situated in the Cicely Room at The Lodge, amid the quiet and beautiful surroundings of Sutton Ecology Centre. Weather permitting, our sessions will involve short walks into the centre and drawing outdoors.

Mediums will include pencil, charcoal, ink, brushes and gathered natural materials. We only request that participants bring a selection of pencils and a sketchbook to record their journey through the course.

The course is led by artist Zoe Scammell, with support from husband and fellow artist Mark Pembrey. Zoe has previously taught mindfulness courses both in person and online. She has given workshops at various venues across London including The National Portrait Gallery, The Saatchi Gallery and the Wallace Collection. Zoe’s approach to mindfulness is often playful. As well as moments of calm and contemplation, this course will have many moments of humour and joy.

We’re grateful for support with this project from Arts Network Sutton and EcoLocal.

Course aims:
